From rivers in the rainforest in the central highlands... |
... to rice growing in the city... |
... and sunsets over the Indian Ocean in the west, Madagascar is a country of contrasts. |
In the east, people live in two or three storey houses |
Some plain, some painted |
In little villages perched on the hillsides |
Flat land and terraces are given over to cultivation |
Preparing to plant rice seedlings - the cattle break down the clods of soil |
While the women harvest the seedlings from the nursery to be planted out |
Flat land in the capital city, Antananarivo, is used for growing rice and other crops |
And the houses are all on the hillsides, even in town |
Zebu cattle form the basis of agricultural wealth in the south |
And provide much of the pulling power... |
...here we are, off to the beach resort of Anakoa! |
And this is where we stayed on Anakoa |
Idyllic, except for the spines on the veg! |
The locals heading out to fish |
The local market at Camp Robin, colourful and vibrant |
Selling dried fish |
And fruit |
Pick out the tall tourists on the street! |
A stall selling raffia on the side of the road - beautiful crafts! |
And a roadside stall on a street in Tana, selling vegetables |
Very typical street-side stall in Tana, this one selling fried food |
But I am not sure what these dudes are selling! |
Sorry this is a bit blurry, but I wanted to capture the chickens for sale as the bus drove past! |
A poissonnerie selling fish... |
and a Teeshirterie selling teeshirts!!!
|
No boot too small for transporting furniture! |
